This is a Pre-Order for the second wave of Soma Grand Randonneur frames which should arrive in the US in late February or early March. Once the frame arrives, we need to prep the frame/fork, so figure it will ship roughly around the second or third week of March (this is just a rough approximation, could be a bit sooner or a smidge later).
The purchase price includes shipping to the lower 48 and a prep of the frame using our Campagnolo tool set and we also tap out the eyelets and other bosses. For shipping outside the lower 48 please inquire about the additional charge. It takes us about an hour to prep your Soma frame using our expensive tools; this work and the shipping cost explain why your Soma from us is priced higher than the $499 suggested retail. If you want your frame for local pickup and without prep we're happy to sell it for the $499 (plus tax if local pick-up).
Also - there is discussion about the fork's crown race diamter. When you purchase the frame from us we machine down the crown race so it is the typical 26.4 seat diameter.
The Wonderful New Soma Grand Randonneur frame and fork. A low-trial 650b frame and fork with great geometry and a really nice balance of smoothness and versatility.
Rembember - there are safety risks associated with using fenders (debris can lock up a front wheel causing a terrible accident) so keep that in mind...
This frame is an amazing value - in the small and mid sizes the tubing is the reasonable skinny .8/.5/.8 with .9/.6/.9 downtube. The design is low trail. And the price is silly low! This bike rides great, and at this price its a steeeel.
The steerer is 1" threaded (for quill stems).
Of course, compared with out Boulder Bicycle frames with OS or skinny stock configurations, and a more sophisticated fork rake and sleeker rear triangle, the Soma is not quite as smooth over the bumps. But it may be a tad more stout than our Boulder Bicycle frames for extra load so may take a smidge of rear loading a bit better. But of course, the Soma Grand Randononuer
